HEAD is a Proud Sponsor of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month

Here are a few tips on getting started

There are more than 300 ski resorts in most regions of the U.S. and many are relatively close to metropolitan areas. Most offer "turnkey" learn to ski or sbowboard programs that generally include a lift ticket, lesson and rental equipment. When starting out, take a beginner lesson from a professional instructor located at the resort's ski and snowboard school. At many areas, the PSIA-AASI is there to help you. That stands for Professional Ski Instructors of America- American Association of Snowboard Instructors.

Current skiers and snowboarders can be a great source of information. Skiing and snowboarding are social sports and great ways to meet interesting people. Local clubs (see below) are another option. Rely on a trained and experienced pro for lessons though.

SKI AND SNOWBOARD SHOPS WHERE YOU LIVE

skishopsShops sell equipment and clothing for skiing and snowboarding and they also rent equipment. They employ trained personnel who can help guide you through your first steps. These professionals can recommend learning programs and help you determine what to purchase when the time is right. At least visit a local shop to find out how to dress for outdoor activity. Many shops also offer bus trips to a local resort. Trip leaders are another source for information.

GOOGLE LOCAL CLUBS

Clubs tend to be ski oriented. Generally they are located in large metropolitan areas, colleges and high schools. Clubs primarily are run by volunteers who love snow sports. Clubs run trips to various locations - some local and some more destination oriented. The National Ski Club Federation is an organized group of clubs and councils throughout the U.S.
