Most offer "turnkey" learn to ski or sbowboard programs that generally include a lift ticket, lesson and rental equipment. When starting out, take a beginner lesson from a professional instructor located at the resort's ski and snowboard school. At many areas, the PSIA-AASI is there to help you. That stands for Professional Ski Instructors of America- American Association of Snowboard Instructors. Clubs run trips to various locations - some local and some more destination oriented. The National Ski Club Federation is an organized group of clubs and councils throughout the U.S.

Industry media is slanted more toward experienced participants. They also include a lot of practical information and some incredible photography. Shops sell equipment and clothing for skiing and snowboarding and they also rent equipment. They employ trained personnel who can help guide you through your first steps. These professionals can recommend learning programs and help you determine what to purchase when the time is right. At least visit a local shop to find out how to dress for outdoor activity. Many shops also offer bus trips to a local resort. Trip leaders are another source for information.
