partner_AASILessons from a professional instructor mean learning from those who know state-of-the-art techniques. They can provide a myriad of knowledgeable "insider" tips.

STEP ONE

DSC01577First, what are your goals? Are you a beginner who needs assistance just getting on and off a pair of skis or a snowboard? Need help with the lifts that will transport you up the slopes? Are you a little nervous with your first slide?

Professional instructors understand the issues encountered by those just starting and those who want to improve. They are prepared to make you feel at ease.

ADVANCING YOUR SKILLS

More experienced skiers and snowboarders can generally learning new skills faster by seeking out a pro who really knows the ins and outs of the mountain. Professionals can quickly analyze some "bad habits" that may prevent you from progressing.

SEEK YOUR COMFORT LEVEL

Feeling comfortable is key regardless of ability or age. Determine your fatigue factor. Do you prefer a two - hour lesson, a half day or a whole day program? Do you like "mixed company" or prefer gender specific classes? Crave a private lesson or is a group fine with you? Most Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month programs are for groups of varying sizes. Are kids involved? Some resorts offer lessons starting at age three.

Many learning programs have instructors who speak different languages. Inquire if English is not your strong suit.

DSC01586Resorts in the U.S. offers learning programs staffed by trained professionals. Use this site to help you find a program that suits your needs and personality. Programs vary from state to state.

As you improve, you will want to seek out equipment, clothing and accessories at a snow sports retail specialty shop.
