North Lake Tahoe Resorts Have Plethora of Learning Offers in January

 

NORTH LAKE TAHOE/ California/Nevada, January 2012 – January is national Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and many North Lake Tahoe ski resorts have plenty of offers for those who want to learn a new snow sport. When Mother Nature proves to be stubborn, resorts in the area have been making snow to help ensure that learning area have plenty of snow.

“Significant capital improvements at area ski resorts coupled with optimal cold temperatures at night have North Lake Tahoe snowmaking machines delivering with nine of our resorts open, 51 lifts cranking and 88 trails for pointing those boards downhill,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. “The snow along with the fair weather is also well suited for beginners, especially with January’s deep discounts.”

Diamond Peak Ski Resort, located in Incline Village, is joining the national effort now through Thursday, January 13. The resort will offer their beginner package for just $29 (normally $75).·This package includes a 1 hour 45 minute group lesson, ski or snowboard equipment rental and beginner lift ticket. Learn to Ski and Ride Week is available for ages 7 and up and lesson times are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily.·

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are celebrating Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, now through Sunday, January 29, by offering affordable beginner learn-to-ski and ride packages for $39/person (ages 13+), including a half-day lesson (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) with ski professionals, lift ticket and equipment rentals.

For those that find they are hooked after just one lesson, there is the option to upgrade for $130/person to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ Learn to Ski/Ride Three-Day Progression Package. The Progression Package includes three days of lessons (10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., ages 13+), lift tickets, rental equipment, and a learn-to-turn guarantee. Lessons can be taken consecutively or spread throughout the season. This package is offered daily during the winter season for just $289/person. 



Another great learn to ski and snowboard option available throughout the season is the First Time Skier/Rider Package for $159/person. This package is an introduction to the basics and teaches students to turn, stop and ride lifts at a comfortable pace. This package includes lessons (10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., ages 13+), lift ticket and rental equipment. There is also an afternoon (1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.) option with the Afternoon First Time Skier/Rider Package for $119/person.·For an additional $130/person, an upgrade is available to the Learn to Ski/Ride Three-Day Progression Package for anyone who decides they would like an additional two days of lessons.

Homewood Mountain Resort, on Tahoe’s West Shore, is also participating in Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month in January. First-time skiers and snowboarders (ages 13+) receive a 2.5-hour beginner lesson, beginner lift ticket and all-day equipment rentals for just $44/person. On Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl’s “General Admission Days” is a great opportunity to celebrate Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month this January.·Ticketed guests (ages 13-69 and all season pass holders ages 4+) enjoy free rentals for the day and a free two-hour group lesson at any level.·Sugar Bowl’s Daron Rahlves, former American freestyle skier, alpine ski racer and the newest ambassador for Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, will be at the resort today, Tuesday, January 10and Saturday, January 21 to welcome new skiers and riders to the sport.

Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe, just outside of Incline Village, is encouraging families and beginners to take to the slopes with $10 lift tickets (for 17 years and under) available at the resort daily through Friday, January 20. The resort has 100% of its beginner terrain open and its First Timer packages are now $69/person at Mt. Rose ($67 if you reserve online) and include beginner lift ticket, 90-minute lesson and rental equipment (ages 7+).

On Donner Summit, Boreal Mountain Resort offers its popular 1-2-3 Ride Free program. Participants taking lessons at Boreal have their days tracked. After the third lesson, skiers and snowboarders (valid for 4 years and older) get a free season pass. Lessons are intended for beginners only.·No initial registration is needed. After completing the first lesson, the ski instructor will give participants a registration card with directions about how to sign-up for the program. 1-2-3 Ride Free is subject to sell-out.
