Washington, DC - Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month (January) may be over for 2013 but, thanks to storms in various parts of the country, now is a perfect time to sign up for lessons at a nearby venue, according to organizers of the national initiative. The Bring a Friend Challenge offers incentives for those who bring friends to a local venue and help them sig up for lessons from a professional instructor.
“If you already ski or snowboard or took lessons during January bring a friend to your favorite location, help them register for lessons and you could win some fantastic prizes such as skis, snowboards and trips to well-known destination resorts, “ said Mary Jo Tarallo, director of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month/Bring a Friend. “Learning these winter sports can open up a whole new world that includes fun, camaraderie and a brand new skill.”
The Bring a Friend Challenge continues until March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day). Prizes for those who help sign up newcomers for lessons include skis from Head Wintersports, snowboards from Rossignol and RAMP, gloves from Swany as well as trips to The Canyons, Deer Valley and Park City in Utah, Sun Valley in Idaho and Smugglers’ Notch in Vermont.
Another contest rewards those who can capture the “fun and exhilaration” of skiing or snowboarding via video. The “Why I Love to Ski or Ride” Contest includes jackets from The North Face, a $500 gift certificate from skis.com, a selection of videos from Warren Miller Entertainment and a free year-long subscription to SKI or Transworld Snowboarding magazines. The contest runs through February 28, 2013.
“February and March are great times to take lessons from professional instructors,” said Tarallo. “Lessons are the best and fastest way to learn and improve. You wouldn’t ’start sky-diving without a lesson from a trained instructor so why would you try to teach yourself or have a friend try to teach you how to ski or snowboard?”
